Counter

Counter

Nestled in the new shoplots of Kota kemuning, lies an artsy cafe cum art gallery on the 1st floor of street behind Chatime. Once enter, we were greeted by the warm smiles of the baristas and owners. The interior was classy and cozy with warm lights and polished wooden counter tops. The walls were mainly black coupled with some vanilla colored ones.

Half of the hall is where the cafe is, decorated with spotlights, black blinds and walls of glass. There's also a section with high back chairs to chill out with a cup of coffee and a good book. There's also another section with high chairs facing the greeneries and housing area of Kota kemuning, more suited for solo patrons.

The other half is where the art gallery is located. Many inspiring art pieces were displayed around the hall. On top of that, there's a long table in the middle of the gallery should you choose to dine there while surrounded by the lush colors of the paintings. All the displayed paintings are for sale as well.
Golden Wrap

Golden Wrap

I ordered the Golden Wrap and my partner had the Miss Sunshine. Both dishes were served with pesto based potatoes, garden salad and yoghurt. The Golden Wrap consist of an omelette with bacon, presented in a shape of a small cup while Miss Sunshine has a piece of bread cupping a runny egg. The sets come with coffee or tea.

Serving time is a bit on the slow side probably because it's new and there were an overwhelming amount of patrons. But the waitress made it up by being courteous and keep on showing us her sunny, big smile.

The potatoes were nicely seasoned and it's a bit slimy. The garden salad were fresh and the dressing is not very sour. The yoghurt serves as a perfect finishing to the whole set. It's light, with just a hint of sweet and sour combination. The main portion of Golden Wrap was very artistically presented as it was baked with slightly salted strips of bacon enveloping the omelette. Miss Sunshine's bread goes well with the runny egg to make it an irresistible combination. It was a very satisfying breakfast!
Nutty Cake

Nutty Cake

We also had the nutty cheese cake which reminds me very much of Alexis' tiramisu! The nutty top part was nicely caramelized with tasteful sunflower seeds as the highlight of the cake. A layer of cream with chocolate chips were sandwiched in between the layers of sponge. It's rich and has a lot to munch on. Good for sharing.
Caffe Mocha

Caffe Mocha

We ordered a cup of caffe mocha to go with the cake. The mocha is a real definition of kao! And not to be confused with most mocha where the chocolate taste is more than the coffee. This one is almost the other way round. It's good for those who like strong coffee with rich chocolate taste.
Golden Rose Mango

Golden Rose Mango

They are also having an opening promotion with 20% discount on food and drinks from now till 13 oct 2012. As well as 30% off on art pieces. They are also selling jars of Golden Rose Mango at RM22.90 and for each jar sold, RM1 will be donated to the charity.

Cater for morning and lunch crowd, they are only opened from 8am till 6pm and closed on Wednesdays. I hope they'll open at night soon! It seems like a good place to hangout especially at night.

Value for money fried oyster Smile Sep 04, 2012

A trip to Penang would not be complete without a dish of fried oyster! The nearest food court from where my hotel is at Super Tanker.

They serve fried oyster, fried prawn and the combination of both. Prices ranges from RM5 to RM10.
Fried Oyster

Fried Oyster

I first ordered the RM5 fried oyster. When it arrived, I was shocked by the massive amount of oysters they put in. Generous amount of fat, juicy oysters! The oysters were fried in typical Penang style of eggs + starch with spring onions. The dish turns out to be quite good, although I would prefer it to be slightly more cooked. The ratio of egg and starch was OK, but since it was a little too undercooked for my liking, the starch was a little too wet. The oysters were cooked perfectly as they were juicy and full of oyster aroma!
Spot the prawn!

Spot the prawn!

After finishing this dish, I proceeded to order another, as I was still hungry. This time I ordered the fried oyster and prawn. It was a little strange to see prawns cooked in the same dish as the oysters. When it arrived, I thought they've gotten my order wrong as I could not see any prawns. Upon further digging, only then I realise the prawns were all underneath the oyster. The dish was almost the same as the fried oysters itself. However, the prawns were quite big, and also cooked to perfection. It was springy and juicy! The best thing is, there is no need to peel the prawn shells!

I will definitely order this the next time I come by Super Tanker. Great value for money fried oysters!

Delectable Bulgogi deopbap!

Delectable Bulgogi deopbap!

View of the humble shop

View of the humble shop

Frankly, I'm not a fan of Korea food. One big reason is, I don't eat kimchi because I can't stand that foul smell and sourish taste. So normaly I'll avoid Korean restaurants other than the BBQ ones.

And pops this small humble restaurant run by a native Korean in the very secluded lower ground floor of Plaza Mont Kiara. I was reluctant to go but my colleague convinced me that it's a must try. So I went.

It's situated near the basement Carpark. The shop itself had no doors, only 2 walls in fact and a couple of tables and chairs. The aroma of the cooking will easily lure u if u r walking towards he Carpark! It's a very humble little shop so there's not much decoration but it's neat and tidy and the waitresses are accommodating. Sometimes even the owner herself will come and take your order.

The menu was concised and straightforward. They are mostly rice dishes if not all. So being unadventurous, I chose the safest option (which turns out to be my favourite), the bulgogi deopbap. While preparing, you are served with chilled water and some side dishes. The side dishes are random but love it or hate it, kimchi will be the staple for the sides. There are also beansprout, big headed beansprout, sautéed vege with ham, anchovies etc.

About 10-15mins later, food is served. The portion is bigger than normal. At first bite, I immediately fell in love with the rice. It was moist and SWEET! It's definitely a grade A type of rice. Then onto the bulgogi, amazingly it's not the sweet type that I was used to. It's still a BIT sweet but it's cooked with onion and nicely marinated to perfection. The meat is tender, juicy, just heavenly! Great to go with the rice. And usually the plate will be cleaned without a grain left on the plate. For RM15, I'll definitely say its a steal!

My favourite is the bulgogi deopbap, jeyuk deopbap and sundubu jigae. Other must try are the dongaseu and gimbap. The jeyuk deopbap is pork in red sauce. U can opt for the octopus too or mixed, they are quite flexible. Sundubu jigae is beancurd with clam spicy soup and rice. It's especially nice during a rainy day. Dongaseu is the fried pork rice with ketchup. I would prefer it to have lesser ketchup as the sweetness drown the original pork taste. And gimbap is Korean sushi which has a light taste but it's a BIG roll so it's good for sharing.

Upper Deck Smile Jul 01, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Came by this restaurant at Damansara Uptown after a satisfying gym session on a weekend morning to try their famous all-day breakfast. Given their healthy menu, this was a perfect choice for me.

The ambience is quite cosy, which is decorated with an airport theme. This is evident from the variety of travel guides nicely arranged at their bookshelves ranging from Scotland to Egypt and even Havana for customers to enjoy.

However, I find the seatings arrangements were rather too packed which makes it a little hard to speak in private. Ordering and payment has to be done at the counter, and a number tag will be given to your table in which your food will be served to you.
Upper Deck

Upper Deck

I ordered their Upper Deck, which fundamentally is a triple sandwich. The Upper Deck also comes with salad which is perfect for a healthy meal. The triple sandwich are all kept together with a rather long stick. It consists of turkey bacon, turkey ham, egg mayonnaise, cheese, lettuce among others. I find that the combination of all the ingredients very refreshing and delicious. The lettuce is fresh and crunchy with the flavourful egg mayonnaise. The turkey bacon was not very crispy but it has a strong flavour. Combining all of these flavours gives the sandwich a delicious taste. The salad was fresh, although slightly plain due to the minimal dressing.

The Upper Deck costs RM13.90, which is a little expensive for sandwich but given the quality of the ingredients it's not too bad.

I've always love Capricciosa's pasta especially the fresh pasta. My partner and I happen to stumble upon this shop when they were having the super crazy deal last year and we had 3 plates of pasta in the end! Back to this, when they meant by fresh pasta, it's really fresh pasta. I have not tried any fresh ones prior to this and I can instantly tell the difference straight away. The pasta is supple and soft with slight tanginess and full of eggy flavour. The cream sauce is slightly thick and the Eringi mushrooms were juicy and delightful. What's missing is just some bacon pieces and it could be one of the best pasta ever. It's one of my favourites next to the black ink squid which I'm gonna try the next time I visit Capricciosa!
