Fast Sushi Cry Oct 24, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Stall / Warung | Seafood

The restaurant: Sushi Q is located inside the One Utama Shopping Mall. It is actually a Japanese kiosk.

Environment/interior-decor: First impression is Colourful and fun! They have a limited number of sitting place.

Menu: Limited, unlike the other branches, One Utama branch does not serve donburi and ramen. You will also realized what you can order is based on what is available there.

Food:

Assorted sushi and sashimi box (Left: Rm 18.80) & Lobster Mayo Maki (Right: Rm 14.80)

It looks appealing and colourful, but don’t let the picture fool you! The salmon sashimi was thinly sliced and the taste of the sushi was just so-so. I don’t get why people raved about the lobster mayo maki, it is creamy but that’s it! There wasn’t any much flavour, smokiness, bits or anything. It was just coloured mayo with a little flavour. In addition to all that, it was really irritating that the sushi rice keeps falling off. (In fact, I felt like going in there and teach them the proper ways to make sushi rice). sad

Awabi (Rm 8.00)

Basically seasoned abalone. Is sweet and chewy, and it’s basically the other representation of the well-known baby octopus. Portion is small.

Service: Well it’s a kiosk.

Verdict: I definitely won’t pay the full price for this. Luckily I paid 55% of the original price. No I would not go again unless there is a major revamp. Oh yes, I came by around 8 pm, and there was hardly anything left. mad

Simple Fusion Somewhat  OK Dec 21, 2012
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

The Restaurant: The restaurant is located inside Space U8; Shah Alam. Priding themselves with offerings of various culinary traditions and nice ambience, it is a self-proclaimed fusion restaurant.

Space U8:

Space U8 is spacious and long, with limited number of operating shops at the moment. It will remind you a bit of Sunway Giza.

The restaurant design is simple and sleek. There is a corner of the restaurant where the chairs are rattan cushion.

Simply Reca menu does indeed live up to its fusion restaurant proclamation. The menu printed on an A3 paper compromise a variety of Asian, western and breakfast dishes. In addition, there is wide array of drinks as well.

Drinks:
Chocolate Mallow Crush (Front; Rm 8.80; Cappucino Hazelnut crush (Back; Rm 7.80)

Chocolate Mallow Crush (Front; Rm 8.80; Cappucino Hazelnut crush (Back; Rm 7.80)

Both drinks look impressive. However, both felt water down and not fully bodied. Although both are supposedly on the crush side, however it felt like an intermission of crush and ice drinks. Chocolate mallow crush tasted like iced chocolate while cappuccino hazelnut crush tasted like iced cappuccino+chocolate with a hint of hazelnut.

Taiwanese shave ice deserts OK Oct 24, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Ice Cream / Froyo / Gelato

So I bought vouchers to try their desert and I can say I was not expecting much, but boy was I wrong.

Signature Taro Q (front) Angel A Soya Ice (back)

Signature Taro Q is their signature desert, and I know why. It consists of yam taro, grass jelly, some other condiments topped with grass jelly ice and milk. Chewy yam taro but the highlight is the grass jelly ice. The whole desert went up another level with the grass jelly ice and the usual smooth, slightly sweet and bitter grass jelly. The milk helps a bit by giving some creaminess and milky taste to the overall sweet and slightly bitter sensation. Well, its very refreshing as well! lol

Angel A soya Ice is alright, but after tasting their signature desert above, one cant help but compared both of them. The soya ice is light but maybe too light in soya flavour. The desert is lacking some sweetness to make it even better. Though, the desert is really cooling..

Verdict: Go for their signature taro Q. You wont regret!

** The shop now have a very short operating hours! If you are working, go on weekends.

Dim Sum Fiesta OK Oct 24, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum

The restaurant: Located near Sunway Giza

Environment/interior-decor: Air-con, round marble tables with stools.

Menu: Do not expect a huge variety here.

Food:

The picture does not show you all the dim sum I ordered. There are some good ones here and there. But since I cant recall now, their dim sum are generally acceptable. However, not something that will make one yearn to go back for.I do recalled their custard bun (Liu Sha Bao) was sad , minimal amount of stuffing and no flowing out molten salted egg yolk.

Service: Kind off slow. The Paos and dim sum were almost lukewarm. Need send back a couple times until they get it right.

Price/Verdict: Rm 169 worth of dim sum spread, but I paid Rm 89 instead with vouchers. tongue I came back again a month after and the portions seems to shrink a little bit. Unless I live super near by and don't know where to go, maybe I will go back.

Jap food again OK Oct 24, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Hotel Dining | Seafood

The Restaurant: Located within The Intermark Mall (KL) is the third branch from its original outlets (Mizu Japanese fine dining). Kin no Mizu offers both the classic and modern interpretation of Japanese cuisine and the freshest ingredients as always.

Environment/interior-decor:
Kin no Mizu décor is different, it’s modern with alluring blue light and water here and there gives off a different experience. I visited the place on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet.

Menu: Since its lunch time, there are variety of set lunches to choose from in addition to daily specials and the a la carte menu. (yes; they have set lunches on a weekend)!

Food:
(Pardon the poor quality of the pictures & I can’t remember the food price)

Grilled cod with salt set

Comes with the usual, fruits, chawanmushi, miso soup, salad and rice. The set as a whole is just so-so. The rice is soft, properly separated. Chawanmushi smooth, properly seasoned. Miso soup was out of the ordinary with potatoes and slightly sour aftertaste. Cod fish, very lightly seasoned and was slightly moist. I felt that the cod was not that fresh. The texture and flavour felt like it was defrost frozen cod or air-chilled cod that was kept in the freezer. sad

Sashimi with tempura set

The sashimi I believe were salmon, tuna and pickled mackerel. The sashimis were fresh and of decent cut. The tempura was on the good side, light crispy battered, seasoned and of good size. Chawanmushi, rice and soup similar as stated above.

If you realised they didn’t gave me grated radish for my tempura sauce.
and
Oh yes, there was a small cockroach in my miso soup (how lovely). shocked

Green tea ice cream (no pics) was lovely, creamy and palatable. The colour was lovely matcha green and the matcha flavour was strong enough.

Service:
Adequate service, though the staff is not alert. Perhaps the dim lighting makes them sleepy. I asked for the menu a few times and I need to call them to refill my tea a few times as well. They didn’t apologize for the small roach. They were somehow more attentive towards the international couple.

Verdict:
The price for each set is from Rm 40-ish above. I was somewhat disappointed with the whole experience as I expected better. The aspect of set lunches on weekends with a variety of choice might excite you. However, if you were expecting something out of the ordinary, I reckon the a la carte and daily special might be a better choice. Besides that, if you are for set lunches other Japanese restaurant fares better even at a lower price. Luckily I paid only Rm40 for these; I would not be happy to pay the full price.

*Ps: Be aware of their operating hours.
